The Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP) offers opportunities for Information Technology (IT) leadership and education through partnerships with industry, government and academia. AITP provides quality IT related education, information on relevant IT issues and forums for networking with experienced peers and other IT professionals. AITP is the Information Technology professional organization of choice for providing leadership opportunities, professional development and personal growth.

We are a local chapter of the National AITP organization, serving the greater Denver, Colorado Metro area. We like to think of ourselves as the premier group in Denver for computer professionals.

You might better recognize us from our former name, Data Processing Management Association or DPMA.

Our Vision and Mission

Vision: To be leaders in the future direction of the IT profession.

Mission: To provide educational opportunities in the areas of new technology, business concepts, and industry issues; and to promote networking opportunities within our professional communities.

Association Profile

Serving Colorado Computer Professionals Since 1952

Founded in October 1952, the Mile High Chapter was the thirteenth chapter of the National Machine Accountants Association (NMAA). In 1962 the name was changed to the Data Processing Management Association (DPMA). The industry continued to change, and in 1996 we became the Association of Information Technology Professionals (AITP).

Our national and local organization has been involved in creating college degrees in computing technology, sometimes called Management Information Systems (MIS), and now Information Technology (IT). Since 1960 we have sponsored a certification program for industry professionals, and in 1962 began giving exams for a Certificate in Data Processing (CDP). In 1974 the Institute for the Certification of Computer Professionals (ICCP) began administering this professional certification program.

For years the Mile High chapter hosted one of the largest regional computer trade shows and held the trade name for "InfoCom," which has been a model for subsequent commercial shows. Occasional Information Technology Leadership Conferences (ITLC) and Professional Development Seminars (PDS) continue this tradition.

In the recent past the Mile High Chapter of AITP hosted an invitation-only Technology Summit at the request of Mikhail Gorbachev, former President of the Soviet Union. The chapter also held a Trade Conference with Ms. Shu-Yuan Chung, Taiwan Council for Economic Planning and Development. The Mile High Chapter hosted the 1998 National Meeting for our parent Association of Information Technology Professionals at Winter Park, Colorado.

The Mile High Chapter was among the first five AITP chapters to create a website. First published in November 1996, in cooperation with the Colorado State University student AITP chapter, this website has been maintained by professional chapter volunteers since 1998.
