Region IV Chapter Outstanding Performance Award (COPA) Winner for 2003

On November 5th, 2004 at the AITP Annual Meeting in Newport, Rhode Island the Mile High Chapter was recognized as the Region IV Outstanding Chapter for 2003. Three chapter Past-Presidents were present to accept this honor, Elaine Miller, Charlie Oriez, and Kinna McDavid. According to Elaine Miller, Chapter Liaison to the national organization and Region IV President, it has been at least ten years since the Mile High Chapter received a COPA award, and this is the first time we have been selected the region's outstanding chapter.

In 2003, the Mile High Chapter increased both the number of members and attendance at the monthly dinner meetings. "A revitalized Board of Directors brought focus and renewed interest in reminding the local IT community of the wonderful opportunities to be found at AITP meetings" said Kinna McDavid, the Immediate Past President. "Our national organization's relationship with Microsoft allowed us to promote a meeting with free copies Office 2003 for Professionals last Fall, and that was a huge draw.

Elaine's tireless efforts supplying volunteers for the Governor's Summits on Technologies demonstrates the extensive network of IT contacts which she cultivates through her AITP and personal leadership roles.

Charlie Oriez has been a key thought leader in the ITand legislative arena for many years. A noted expert on Spam issues, he has turned his focus to new issues. Working with Colorado legislators Charlie is helping to create sane laws concerning environmental preferable methods for disposal of computer equipment. Under Charlie's leadership the AITP National Legislative committee drafted a resolution adopted by the national AITP Board of Directors calling for auditable, electronic voting.
